George Trakas, a Quebec born New York based artist associated with site-specific and land art in the 1970s and 1980s received international acclaim in Documenta 6, Kassel, Germany (1977) for his extensive on-site work Union Pass which was featured among those of other artists working outdoors. For his exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, organized by curator Normand Thériault, Trakas constucted four temporary works in the museum responding to specific rooms. These are documented in the catalogue. along with several other projects in the United States and Europe at the time During the same period he was working outdoors on a major long term project near Tadoussac on the Saguenay River at Cap Trinité on Baie d’ Eternité.
